Actress

Actress is the project of Darren Cunningham, who makes electronic music that seems to arrive half-eroded: house, techno and hip-hop dissolved into smeared, dust-covered abstraction. A defining voice of the Werkdiscs and Ninja Tune orbit, he treats the studio as a place to obscure rather than clarify, letting rhythms sink beneath layers of grain until only their outline remains. The result is club music heard through a fogged window, familiar forms rendered strange by distance and decay. His sets carry the same haunted, out-of-focus beauty, drifting between the dancefloor and abstraction without settling in either for long.
