Afrodeutsche

Afrodeutsche is Henrietta Smith-Rolla, a Manchester-based composer, producer and DJ of Ghanaian, Russian and German descent who grew up in the south west of England. In Manchester she joined Graham Massey's vintage organ group Sisters of Transistors in 2006 and began making electronic music the next year, after hearing Underground Resistance. The Afrodeutsche project started in 2016, and her debut album Break Before Make, a mix of electro futurism and Detroit house, came out on Skam in 2018, followed by RR001, the first release on Eclair Fifi's River Rapid. She scored Sasha Rainbow's BAFTA-nominated short film Kamali and has presented on BBC 6 Music. Her DJ sets pair Drexciyan electro with tough UK techno, and she played Dekmantel Festival in 2019.
