Akanbi

Akanbi is a New York DJ raised in Lagos, Nigeria, where limited internet access only sharpened his hunger for new music. He moved to New York in 2010 and threw himself into every corner of the city's dance music, first as a dedicated dancer and later as a DJ and party-maker. In 2014 he started GROOVY GROOVY, a party built around wild dance floors, radical politics and a judgment-free atmosphere. His sets blend freak-out boogie, sensual rollers, insistent percussion, afrobeat, deep low frequencies and slow-burning experimental passages. He has played Nowadays, Sustain Release, the Guggenheim Museum, Horst, Berghain and Panorama Bar, Corsica Studios, WWW in Tokyo and Primavera Sound, as well as Dekmantel Festival, Dekmantel Selectors and Lentekabinet.
