Alexander Robotnick

Alexander Robotnick is Maurizio Dami, born in Florence in 1950. He began in Avida, a dance-cabaret band with Daniele Trambusti and Stefano Fuochi, and took the Robotnick name in the early eighties after Gianpero Bigazzi of the Materiali Sonori label suggested disco could pay the bills. The result was Problèmes d'Amour in 1983, released first on Materiali Sonori and then by Sire, a record that became a cult track of dance music and a cornerstone of Italo disco and electro. In 1984 he joined Giovanotti Mondani Meccanici, a multimedia group, composing for theatre, video and installations, and in 1995 he conceived Florence's first Ambient Music Festival at the Anfiteatro delle Cascine. He has lectured at the Red Bull Music Academy.
