Charmaine

Charmaine grew up in Rotterdam surrounded by music through her father, whose vinyl collection she later inherited, and that record shelf set her on the path to DJing. She worked with two Rotterdam institutions, the Clone record store and Operator Radio, where she was a programmer, and hosted a residency on Radio Tempo Nao Para. Her sets are guided by instinct rather than genre, running from deep seventies jazz-funk to Chicago house, disco, dubbed-out electronics and raw Detroit techno, connecting distant sounds through a timeless perspective and a sense of storytelling. She has played De School, Doka, North Sea Jazz, Dekmantel Selectors and Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Festival, and recorded a Radio by MONO session for Dekmantel Connects.
