Deena Abdelwahed

Deena Abdelwahed started out as a jazz singer in Tunis, performing standards with the band So Soulful, and moved through the city's electronic scene before relocating to France in 2016, where she settled in Toulouse. Signed to the Paris label InFiné, she released the EP Klabb in 2017, the album Khonnar in 2018 and the EP Dhakar in 2020. Khonnar is a Tunisian word for the dark, shameful and disturbing side of things, and the album blends bass, techno and experimental music while reclaiming the diversity of Arabic music inside club forms. She co-produced the track An Itch on Fever Ray's album Plunge and has remixed Bachar Mar-Khalifé, Flore and Afrika Bambaataa.
