Detroit In Effect

Detroit In Effect, or D.I.E., began as a duo of DJ Maaco and Odell, who released fast, high-energy old-school electro on their own M.A.P. Records through the nineties and 2000s and became one of Detroit's most influential duos. Maaco, who later carried the name solo, started out as a church drummer at six, turned to breakdancing, and learned to mix and scratch on a Radio Shack mixer; as a teenager he was shown an 808 and a Juno 106 by Kool Keith Tucker, and his first release came in 1992 with the group One Nation. His sets are fast and ferocious, with quick cuts and scratching rooted in the city's electro. He has recorded mixes for FACT and Dimensions, and played Dekmantel Festival 2018 and Dekmantel Ten.
