DJ Marfox

DJ Marfox is Marlon Silva, a Lisbon DJ and producer born to parents from São Tomé and Príncipe and a pioneer of batida, the sound of the city's housing estates that fuses kuduro, kizomba, funaná and tarraxinha with house and techno. He began DJing in 2002, taking his alias from the Nintendo character Star Fox. In 2005 he founded DJs do Guetto with DJ Pausas and DJ Fofuxo, and their compilation DJs do Ghetto Vol. I is seen as the founding release of the ghetto sound of Lisbon. His first solo release, Eu Sei Quem Sou on Príncipe Discos, was followed by Lucky Punch on Lit City Trax and Chapa Quente. He has played MoMA PS1's Warm Up series and the Red Bull Music Academy in New York.
