Ellen Allien

Ellen Fraatz, known as Ellen Allien, grew up in West Berlin and first met electronic music in London in 1989. Back in Berlin she became a resident at Bunker, Tresor and E-Werk in 1992 and hosted the radio show Braincandy on Kiss FM, also the name of her first label. In 1999 she founded BPitch Control, which launched Modeselektor, Paul Kalkbrenner and Apparat, and her albums on it include Stadtkind, dedicated to her city, Berlinette, Thrills and Orchestra of Bubbles with Apparat. Her music blends techno and IDM with experimental edges and vocals in German and English. She later started the UFO Inc. label and the rave series We Are Not Alone, and has held residencies at Nitsa and Circoloco.
