François K

François Kevorkian was born in France to an Armenian family, played drums as a teenager and moved to New York in 1975, where he was soon DJing in underground clubs. He taught himself tape editing, worked in A&R at Prelude Records and in 1982 scored more number ones on Billboard's dance chart than anyone, with mixes such as Yazoo's Situation and Dinosaur L's Go Bang. His credits run from Kraftwerk to The Smiths, and he built Axis Studios in the Studio 54 building. In 1995 he founded Wave Music, and in 1996 he launched the Sunday party Body and SOUL with Joe Claussell and Danny Krivit. His Monday night Deep Space NYC, begun in 2003, turned towards dub, and he toured with Derrick May as the Cosmic Twins.
