FunkinEven

Steven Julien was born and raised in west London to a family of Grenadian heritage, and started out as a dancer, then an MC and beatmaker, before synthesisers took over. As FunkinEven he was among the first signings to Eglo Records, the label run by Floating Points and Alexander Nut, with the 2009 EP Kleer featuring Fatima. He founded Apron Records in 2011 as a home for jazz, house, soul, boogie and techno with careful sleeve design, and hosts the Apron Show on NTS. With Kyle Hall he recorded as FunkinEvil. Under his own name he released the albums Fallen, Bloodline and 8 Ball on Apron, with drum programming shaped by his hip-hop background.
