James Holden

James Holden grew up in Market Bosworth, Leicestershire, and studied mathematics at Oxford. At nineteen his trance single Horizons, made with the freeware program Buzz, was picked up by Pete Tong and John Digweed. In 2003 he founded Border Community, which launched Nathan Fake, Fairmont and Luke Abbott, and his remix of Fake's The Sky Was Pink became a defining record of the decade. Albums followed with The Idiots Are Winning and The Inheritors, after which he moved from DJing to live performance on modular synth with drummer Tom Page. The Animal Spirits was recorded live with a five-piece band, and his collaborations include Marhaba with Floating Points and Maalem Mahmoud Guinia.
