Jonathan Castro

Jonathan Castro Alejos is a graphic designer, artist and occasional musician from Lima, Peru, who moved to the Netherlands after the Open Set Summer School in Rotterdam. He worked at Studio Dumbar, Metahaven and Mirko Borsche's studio in Munich before going freelance, and graduated from the Sandberg Instituut with research into dirty listening and ambiguous spaces in the city. Music came first, and records and band merchandise shaped his sense of visual identity. His method is to assemble and reassemble fragments: field recordings, photographs, found objects and second-hand gear. He designed the Dekmantel identity for the festival's tenth edition, drawing on the Amsterdam School of architecture and Piet Kramer's bridges in the Amsterdamse Bos, and performed live visuals alongside a Legowelt improvisation at Het HEM.
