Kampire

Kampire was born in Uganda and raised in Zambia, and became a core member of the Nyege Nyege collective in Kampala. Her Boiler Room set broadcast from Nyege Nyege festival spread far beyond East Africa, and Mixmag named her one of its breakthrough DJs of 2018. Her sets draw on Congolese rhythms, tropical bass and Afro-pop, delivered with bass weight and high energy, and her mixes have appeared on Resident Advisor, Fact and the Dekmantel Podcast. A Rinse FM residency gave airtime to East African artists such as Hibotep, Faizal Mostrixx and Catu Diosis. Outside music she writes and works as an activist, and she co-founded Salooni, an art installation that treats black hair as science, culture and art.
