KC The Funkaholic
Kees Heus, known as KC The Funkaholic, has shaped Amsterdam nightlife since the mid eighties, when he started DJing with an eclectic, genre-blending approach fed by Brazilian music and pirate radio. In 1989 he launched Bassline at the RoXY, the city's longest-running hip hop night, before moving to Paradiso, where as music programmer he created series such as Kindred Spirits, Disco 2000 and Super Sonic Jazz, and founded Summerdance Forever. Kindred Spirits grew from those Paradiso nights, with KC and DJ Leroy as residents, into a label with Rush Hour that gave early exposure to Rednose Distrikt, Jungle by Night and Jameszoo. He calls himself a space maker, and his sets keep that spirit: jazz, funk, soul, hip hop and house run together.
