McCarthy

Douglas McCarthy was an English singer, born in Barking and raised in Essex, who fronted the EBM band Nitzer Ebb from its formation in 1982 until 2024. With school friends Bon Harris and David Gooday he built the group's chanted, physical sound, signing to Mute Records, releasing That Total Age in 1987 and touring with Depeche Mode. Outside the band he formed Fixmer/McCarthy with the French techno producer Terence Fixmer, fusing classic EBM with modern techno on the albums Between The Devil and Into The Night. He also released the solo album Kill Your Friends in 2012 and worked with Cyrusrex as DJM/REX. Fixmer/McCarthy played live at Dekmantel Festival in 2018. McCarthy died in 2025.
