Nihiloxica

Nihiloxica is a Kampala group that joins Bugandan ngoma drumming with UK bass and techno. It began in 2017 as a meeting between the Nilotika Cultural Ensemble and the UK producers pq and Spooky-J, composed and recorded in a month at Nyege Nyege's Boutiq Studio, and its self-titled debut EP came out on Nyege Tapes. The debut album Kaloli followed on Crammed Discs in 2020, named after the Luganda word for the marabou stork, and set polyrhythmic percussion against analogue synth lines. Source of Denial, from 2023, took aim at hostile immigration policy and pulled in metal and djent influences. The line-up counts Isa Isabirye, Prince Kasoma, Jally Mwanje, pq and Spooky-J, and they played live at Lentekabinet Festival in 2019.
