Retromigration

Retromigration is Malik Kassim, a producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist born in Heidelberg with Nigerian and Ghanaian roots, now based in Amsterdam. He learned bass and classical music as a child, then moved through jazz and hip hop before house took hold, and the alias describes his method: a backward journey through those genres, repurposed into deep, rolling house grooves with a nineties hip hop swing. His records have appeared on Wolf Music, Rhythm Section and Handy Records, with the Choices EP series on Wolf among the most recent. As a DJ he has played Glastonbury, Fabric and Lowlands, and Dekmantel booked him for its Dekmantel Ten anniversary edition.
