Sapphire Slows
Sapphire Slows is a Tokyo producer, DJ, synth player and vocalist whose music is ghostly and delicate, with eerie, drone-like vocals layered over shadowy textures. She began making music in her bedroom in 2011, after the earthquakes in Japan pushed her to pursue it, and debuted soon after on Not Not Fun in Los Angeles and Tokyo's Big Love. Further releases appeared on 100% Silk, Nous and Kaleidoscope. Her 2014 album Allegoria leans towards krautrock's whirring pace, while the 2017 album Time holds to a purer, more meditative sound. She took part in the Red Bull Music Academy in Paris in 2015, played Sónar in 2016 and held a residency on Rinse FM from 2018. Her Dekmantel Podcast explores a melancholic, introspective mood.
