Sassy J

Sassy J, the Bern DJ and artist Judith Biffiger, has run her night Patchwork in Switzerland since 2005. She grew up in a musical household where living room performances by jazz musicians, among them the saxophonist Clifford Jordan, were a regular event. Her sets collage rare record store finds with unreleased music from friends, weaving hypnotic analogue pieces with raw, off-kilter beats and deep syncopated rhythm. She played the Co-op nights at Plastic People in the mid-2000s and later Panorama Bar, Sónar, We Out Here and Rainbow Disco Club. Her compilations include a cassette for The Trilogy Tapes, a Patchwork compilation and sampler on Rush Hour, and A Sanctuary on her own Patchwork label. She also makes brightly coloured textile artworks, shown at the Landesmuseum Zurich.
