Silver Apples

Silver Apples formed in New York in 1967 around Simeon Coxe, who played a primitive synthesiser of his own design built from oscillators, and drummer Danny Taylor. The duo were among the first to take electronic techniques out of academia and into rock and pop, releasing Silver Apples in 1968 and Contact in 1969 on Kapp before a lawsuit over the Contact artwork ended the group in 1970. German bootlegs revived interest in the nineties, Simeon re-formed the project in 1996, and the lost third album The Garden appeared in 1998. After Taylor died in 2005, Simeon toured solo and released Clinging to a Dream in 2016. Their influence runs through Suicide, Stereolab and Portishead. Simeon played Lentekabinet Festival in 2017 and died in 2020.
