Soumaya Phéline

Brussels DJ, sound performer and curator Soumaya Phéline has been active on the city's scene since 2006. Her work treats CDJs, turntables and mixers as instruments, pushing turntablism towards performance, with a cinematic approach that turns tracks into narrative and draws on jamming, sampling and choreographed movement. Her sets blend bass-heavy beats and polyrhythms. She founded Another Way to Play, a festival devoted to turntablism and CDJ exploration, released a live cassette of the same name on Le Pacifique Records, and hosts Soumaya Phéline & les copains on Kiosk Radio. She was part of the Psst Mlle collective and works on BIPOC cultural projects, eco-friendly touring, hearing awareness and music accessibility. She played Dekmantel Selectors in 2022.
