Surgeon

Anthony Child grew up in Northamptonshire and moved to Birmingham in 1989 to study audio-visual design. With no techno club in the city, he and his friends started House of God, where he was playing regularly by 1992, and in 1994 his debut EP on Downwards launched Surgeon. He went on to release albums on Tresor, among them Force + Form, to run his own labels Counterbalance and Dynamic Tension, and to hold a three-year residency at Tresor in the nineties. Fact credited his tough, dub-aware sound with a substantial influence on the Ostgut Ton generation. Collaborations include British Murder Boys with Regis, Multiples with Speedy J and The Transcendence Orchestra with Daniel Bean, and albums such as Luminosity Device and Crash Recoil show his reach beyond the club.
