The Blessed Madonna
The Blessed Madonna, formerly The Black Madonna, is Marea Stamper, an American DJ and producer who started out in the late nineties selling mixtapes by underground DJs at raves. She studied English at the University of Louisville, managed its college radio station and went on to a residency at Chicago's Smart Bar. She released the EP Lady of Sorrows in 2013 and the single He Is the Voice I Hear in 2016, later issued on her own label, We Still Believe. Mixmag named her DJ of the year in 2016, the year she played Dekmantel Festival, and she played Lentekabinet in 2017. She changed her name in 2020, and that year mixed Club Future Nostalgia for Dua Lipa and remixed Levitating, carrying underground energy into pop.
