Tony Humphries

Brooklyn-born Tony Humphries is one of the defining DJs of New Jersey house. A tape handed to Shep Pettibone at Prelude Records led to a long run as a KISS FM Mastermixer, later continued on HOT 97, and in 1982 he began his residency at Club Zanzibar in Newark, where the soulful Jersey sound took shape inside long, wide-ranging nights that could fold in Talking Heads and The B-52s. His remixes include Mtume's Juicy Fruit and work for Soul II Soul and Janet Jackson, and Frankie Knuckles drew him back into the studio in 2013. Bootleg tapes of his radio shows built his name in Europe, and he played a Tribute to Zanzibar set at Dekmantel Festival 2016.
