Ulla

Ulla is a Philadelphia composer of intricate, resonant ambient music. She began in 2011 with experimental folk under the alias YYU, released her first records as Ulla Straus from 2016, and shortened the name to Ulla with Tumbling Towards A Wall on Experiences Ltd., an album that Pitchfork, Resident Advisor and the Washington Post counted among the best ambient records of its year. Big Room on Quiet Time Tapes, Limitless Frame on Motion Ward and Foam on 3XL followed, the latter turning piano, guitar and chopped vocal fragments into a glitchier palette. She works closely with Perila, Pontiac Streator, Exael and Ben Bondy, and played Dekmantel Festival's UFO II stage together with Perila.
