Vakula

Vakula is Mikhaylo Vityk, a producer from Konotop in Ukraine and one of the most prolific figures in deep house of the past two decades. His grandfather was a traditional bandura player, and that folk lineage runs through music that otherwise takes its cues from Detroit: analogue synths, drum machines and dusty vinyl samples, with Ukrainian melodies and Soviet-era electronics folded in. Early records for Firecracker, 3rd Strike and Dekmantel put him on the map, and his vinyl-only label Leleka gives the folk and live side of his work its own home. On Dekmantel he released the triple album Cyclicality Between Procyon And Gomeisa, a long-form study in repetition and cycles.
