Yaeji

Yaeji is Kathy Yaeji Lee, a producer, vocalist and DJ based in Brooklyn. Born in Queens to a Korean family, she grew up between Atlanta, South Korea and Japan before finding DJing in the underground scene around Carnegie Mellon University. Her productions sit house and hip hop rhythms under soft, quiet vocals sung in English and Korean, a formula that broke through with the EP2 single Raingurl and a widely shared Boiler Room session. The mixtape What We Drew and the debut album With a Hammer followed on XL Recordings, with collaborators including Oh Hyuk of Hyukoh. As a DJ she keeps the same lightness of touch at club tempo, and has played Dekmantel Festival.
