Zernell

Zernell Gillie was born in Chicago and started DJing at fourteen, in the early years of house music, listening religiously to the Hot Mix 5 on WBMX. He grew up musically at the Music Box and other Chicago clubs, learning song selection and timing from Ron Hardy and the city's other pioneers. His style runs from the heart of disco to the soul of Chicago house with a grimy twist, stripping rare disco down and rebuilding it for the floor. He heads the labels Grimy Edits and Grimy Trax, created the Grimy Gear clothing line and co-founded the Crate Diggers record fair and after-party series. He hosts the monthly Get Grimy show on NTS and played Dekmantel Selectors in 2022.
