Dekmantel Mix 519 - Leon Vynehall

Club bangers, high-concept artist albums, all night long sessions and wide-ranging DJ mixes - UK talent Leon Vynehall can do it all. More than just a producer, he is a thinker who likes to explore beyond the usual limits: in the past, he's served up novellas and short films to complement his music. His most recent album, 2025's In Daytona Yellow, centred around human voices and embraced real vulnerability.

This week's mix takes a similarly thoughtful approach. It was, he says, assembled like an album with an underlying musical narrative loosely themed around 'humanity'. In between the selections are soundbites collected and sampled from across the internet, including "people speaking on art and their practices, commentary about our interaction with modern culture, philosophy, etc. The songs, even though they're electronic, feel overtly 'human'. Music that feels like it's breathing with groove, moments that feel harmonious, some more jagged, and an emotiveness the creators translate through their tools–it could be in the texture of the samples they use or the atmosphere the songs inhabit."
