'Cyclicality Between Procyon And Gomeisa' is a dashing experimental record that evokes the endless and captivating potential of electronic music. Ukrainian Vakula takes us on a mesmerizing journey through various music genres, alien atmospheres and galaxies, exhibiting a singular sonic experience, unlike anything else out there.
‘‘The album is about cycles, repetition and interaction,’’ says Mikhaylo Vityuk aka Vakula. ‘‘A lot of the tracks on 'Cyclicality Between Procyon And Gomeisa', are cyclic with minimal development - like techno can be too. Making a reference between the stars and loops in music made sense to me at this point. It felt interrelated.’’
Vityuk stresses the fact that neither for his previous record 'A Voyage To Arcturus', nor for his album dedicated to Jim Morrison, it was his intention to produce a soundtrack or dedicate an album to the singer. Instead, improvisation was key. ‘‘It was not a concept that I shaped and started filling with material. Energy came together and the concept created itself. I see myself as an instrument that’s part of an organic process.’’ 'Cyclicality Between Procyon And Gomeisa' is the third of a series of albums along the same musical approach.
Working through a process of improvisation and refinement, Vakula once again proves he’s capable of creating complex, yet diverse musical pieces beyond genres and trends. ‘‘There are these moments when I feel connected to the universe and follow what triggers my interest at that very moment. At the same time I work on my own development and stay focused on the things that fuel the creative process.’’
The result is an audio adaptation of Vakula’s fascinating mind. ‘‘There are two parallel processes that come together in my work: me writing music and working on the sound I want to achieve, and the energy from outside that flows and transforms into thoughts, correlations, and actions. It creates the space for my own research and for the path that I need to take in order to find answers and build connections. I may not always go back to the starting point, but this exploration gives me a lot of energy and creative power.’’
The track titles relate to the source of Vakula’s inspiration and connect the dots between his obsession for the vastness of our universe and electronic music. ‘‘I have always been strongly interested in the genesis and creation, and this time it was the star Procyon that drew my attention and made me think outside the everyday box. To wonder about the universe and to dig into mythology and scientific research discovering at least some of its secrets, is what keeps me endlessly motivated as a producer.’’
